Working with Persistent Pain

What Is Persistent Pain?
Persistent pain (sometimes called chronic pain) isn’t just about the pain itself; it’s about how it affects every part of your life. Technically, persistent pain is defined as pain that lingers for more than three to six months, often beyond the usual healing time. But that definition doesn’t begin to cover what it feels like to live with it every day.

For many, persistent pain can change how your body perceives sensations. It can impact how you think, feel, and interact with the world around you. Physically, it limits your movements, which can lead to other health challenges. Mentally and emotionally, living with pain day in and day out can bring on stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation, especially if others don’t quite understand what you’re going through.

At Every Expression Therapies, we take a different approach. We know that living with pain is personal, and our treatments for chronic pain are designed to address your physical, mental, and emotional needs in a way that’s both holistic and tailored to you.

Working Together with The Jing Method
The Jing Method Massage isn’t a “lie-back-and-relax” kind of massage; it’s a cooperative approach to managing persistent pain that invites you to work with your body to find comfort, flexibility, and relief. This isn’t about masking symptoms—it’s about helping your body activate its natural healing systems, specifically the parasympathetic nervous system. When that system switches on, your body can begin to relax deeply, which, in turn, can help reduce pain.

The Jing Method combines several techniques, like myofascial release, sports massage, shiatsu, and acupressure. By focusing on sore spots and the areas that need the most attention, this massage therapy helps release tension and restore range of motion. When your body can move more freely and pain is reduced, you might find it easier to engage in everyday movements, strengthen your body, and gradually reduce your pain over time.

An important part of this treatment is active rehabilitation—guided movements, mobilisations, and strengthening exercises that we’ll practice together in sessions. Working alongside you to build these skills means you can feel confident continuing these movements at home, helping you to stay engaged in your recovery journey between treatments. This puts you at the forefront of your recovery, giving you the tools to reach a higher quality of life more quickly and independently.

Our goal is not only to help you find relief today but to support you in building a stronger, more comfortable body for the future.

Counselling & Massage: A Personalised, Powerful Combination
Persistent pain is as much an emotional journey as it is a physical one, and that’s why we offer creative counselling alongside massage therapy. There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment when it comes to chronic pain; each person’s experience is unique, and our approach respects that.

For some, a balance of hands-on therapy and physical rehabilitation is the right path. For others, more time in counselling may be beneficial to explore the mental and emotional layers of pain. Our creative counselling sessions provide a safe space to express, process, and reshape your experience of pain. This can be especially meaningful if traditional talk therapy hasn’t quite captured what you’re feeling. By blending massage and counselling, we can create a personalised approach that respects your pace and your needs.

Living with persistent pain is a complex journey, and it’s our role to help you find relief and build a life that feels better, one step at a time.
